You are daring to imagine that you could have a different life.

You’ve Got Mail

Next week I will bottle my first wine. I’ve made chokecherry and dandelion wines, and mead, but this is my first grape wine. The merlot is a beautiful color. I had a dream last night that I was tasting it and it was delicious. Today I am starting a Chardonnay.

My life is limited, just as yours is, and we must fill it with as many experiences and joy as possible, don’t you think? Live this beautiful life fully. Should one begin to have trouble waking up and starting the day, changes are needed. A new life can await. We must not be complacent. Let us follow our passions to their new path. Doors will open to where you want to be.

When I was a professional model in my late teens and early twenties, I thought it would never end. Later, I took my dance company as far as it could go before life changed again, and it was time to follow a different path. For the past twelve years, I have been working full time as a Master Herbalist. It has consumed me, has been my identity, and I have loved it. I have a large order to fill this morning and from word of mouth, I still have clients. But it is no longer my main focus.

2013 in Napa, California

I never in a million years thought I would be a professional model, a dance company owner, or have adorable shops selling herbal remedies. Nor did I ever imagine that I would have the opportunity to learn winemaking! Or to work in a winery. Or to plant a vineyard even. We happened upon a place that allows vines (unlike much of Colorado), that happens to have a few local wineries, and where just happens to have a winery that allows me to work there for a couple who are incredibly generous with their knowledge and time. Amazing how doors open.

It is strange going from being extremely knowledgeable in my field to entering a field that I know next to nothing about, despite all of the books I have read. I am happy being the apprentice. Learning from scratch. The thrill of learning new things, meeting new people, and walking on new paths. Watching how my life stays the same in some ways (my farm is just adding a vineyard and sheep) mixed with how my life is changing (learning wine making, working in the wine world, and planning a fiber business). These new paths make me excited to get out of bed, excited to learn more, happy to be alive.

Tell me, what are your dreams right now?
